More Cuts in Magistrate Numbers
Workers' Compensation Mgistrates are appointed to four year terms that can be renewed twice.
This year, the trms of eight magistrates are up, but the Goernor is not renewing any of them. As a result, the total number of Magistrates will be reduced from 25 to 17.
Since, a few years ago, there were about 30 Magistrates, this means the total has almost been halved. This is in line with the dramatic decline in the number of new lawsuits, which have fallen by half in the past ten years.
